Originally they did not have current name, but this changed after signing the contract between the tennis player Stan Smith and brand adidas in 1971. It is in these Smith won Wimbledon in 1972 and then became a tennis number one! In 1988 Guinness record was set in the sales of these shoes - were sold 22 million pairs of signed by name on the tennis player! Upper characteristic of punched three stripes and tonal sole transformed it into a true icon sneakers.
