The purchase of the José de Sousa Rosado Fernandes Agricultural House in 1986 came to realize a long-standing dream of the Soares Franco family: to produce Alentejo wines on prestigious (josé de Sousa's dark red from 1940) and historical properties (wine has been produced there since at least 1878), using traditional wine-making methods.
The Montado was first produced in 1991, retaining its original composition today.
